I’m launching a brand new podcast. It's called the Life First Accounting Firm podcast, and it's for solo firm owners (and accountants thinking about starting their own firm) who want success without giving up their life outside of work.

With absolutely nothing to do with accounting, here’s what’s going on with…

Oh, 2025…what will I say about you? You were a doozy. It’s probably not an exaggeration to say that after 8 years of firm ownership, 2025 was my most emotionally taxing (no pun intended) to date.

It’s Wednesday, so I would normally be off from accounting firm work today, but I shifted my week a little due to the holiday. My parents were in town until yesterday, so I took most of Monday off to hang with them.

With absolutely nothing to do with running an accounting firm (because it’s nice to remind ourselves that we’re more than our work), here’s what I’m reading, watching, and playing.

I’m still processing Bridging the Gap (more on that next week?), but the biggest stop-me-in-my-tracks moment happened even before breakfast on the first day.

Your kids are teaching more about selling than you realize. In our house, it sounds like this: “Do you want an apple or strawberries on your plate?”

It’s no secret that I do my best to run my firm with iron-clad boundaries. But I do this from a place of being part of a two-income household with my husband holding a W-2 accounting job that offers health insurance.

Currently on vacation, but scheduled this so you didn’t feel like I forgot you, but I’m keeping it light today.

I was raised as a kid in typical American culture where “success” was defined as 1st place trophies in little league, straight As, high scores, and perfect attendance in school.

Most importantly…congrats to all who made it through this week’s deadline!! You’re almost there!!
