Reading / Watching / Playing + Gusto Showcase

With absolutely nothing to do with running an accounting firm (because it’s nice to remind ourselves that we’re more than our work), here’s what I’m…

READING

On Monday, I finished The Sweaty Startup by Nick Huber. While I don’t agree with every single thing he preaches (or the chapter where he’s having a mental breakdown in the fetal position during his first year of business), 22-year-old Erica would have loved this book. Forty-year-old Erica has a different energy these days, but I still gave it 4 stars on Goodreads.

Before that, I dipped a toe into fiction and read What Kind of Paradise by Janelle Brown. It was suspense and tech boom and a trip down millennial-memory lane all wrapped into one. Technically, it’s “historical fiction” because it took place in the 1990s 🤢 (that feels below the belt) but I’ll leave it at that so there are no spoilers.

WATCHING

With no shame, I admit that our whole family just binged the 2nd season of My Life With The Walter Boys. There. I said it. I’m making up for every episode I never watched of Dawson’s Creek…bad teenage acting and all. We’re also just about to finish Bachelor in Paradise (because we wouldn’t let the kids watch Love Island). Though, we didn’t watch Tuesday’s finale yet so don’t you dare reply here telling me what happens.

PLAYING

Any time we need wind-down / no-screen time, I’ve been recruiting anyone willing in our house to play Kings Corner with me. The 10yo isn’t too willing, but the 14yo and husband acquiesce. Played with a standard deck of cards, it’s kind of like solitaire…but with friends. You can get through a game in 15 minutes or less, so it’s a great bedtime game.  Here’s a good YouTube rundown.

Let’s meet up at…
